Dibrugarh: The 22nd Convocation of Dibrugarh University was held on Sunday, marking a momentous occasion for 10,765 graduating students, including 87 Ph.D. recipients.

Among the graduating class, 37 exceptional students were awarded gold medals – 33 postgraduates and 3 graduates across various disciplines.

Additionally, one student received the Dr. Junali Kropi Memorial Award for achieving the highest marks in the Department of Anthropology.

Assam Governor and Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Gulab Chand Kataria, presided over the ceremony.

In his address, he highlighted the importance of inter-disciplinary education, a core principle of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

He urged the university to develop curriculums that foster this approach, preparing students for a dynamic and interconnected world.

Governor Kataria congratulated the university on receiving a significant grant of ?100 crore. He stressed the importance of utilizing these funds effectively to propel Dibrugarh University to the forefront of Indian universities.

He also highlighted the crucial role of universities in promoting Indian Knowledge Systems and advocated for prioritizing them in academic discourse.

Dibrugarh University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jiten Hazarika, expressed gratitude to the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for awarding the university a ?100 crore Multidisciplinary Education and Research University (MERU) grant under the PM-USHA Scheme.

Additionally, he thanked the state government for granting an extra ?100 crore to support academic and infrastructure development, particularly during this crucial phase of NEP 2020 implementation.

Professor Sudhir Kumar Barai, Director of Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. His address emphasized the importance of holistic student development, highlighting the interconnectedness of physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

The ceremony also conferred prestigious honorary degrees: D. Sc Honoris Causa upon Kshiradhar Barua and D. Litt Honoris Causa upon Imran Shah.
