Guwahati: The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), NF Circle, Sumeet Singhal, will conduct a two-day statutory inspection of the newly constructed Murkongselek–Sille section, spanning approximately 15.60 km, on February 12 and 13.

This section forms the first phase of the 26.15 km-long Murkongselek–Pasighat New Railway Line Project under the Tinsukia Division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). Successful completion of the inspection and subsequent clearance is expected to pave the way for regular passenger and freight train operations up to Sille, significantly enhancing rail connectivity in the region.

During the inspection, the CRS will be accompanied by senior officials from the NFR Construction Organisation, which supervised the project. The inspection will commence at 8:30 a.m. from Murkongselek station.

The Murkongselek–Pasighat line, once fully operational, will extend 26.15 km from Murkongselek in Assam to Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh. The project has been planned in two phases. Phase I – Murkongselek–Sille (15.60 km) and Phase II – Sille–Pasighat (10.55 km). The alignment includes three new stations at Sille, Labo, and Pasighat, along with several major and minor bridges, Road Over Bridges (ROBs), and Road Under Bridges (RUBs).

Upon completion, the railway line is expected to boost regional connectivity, facilitate economic growth by promoting tourism, trade, and small-scale industries, and reduce transportation costs and travel time. It will also ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities and provide long-distance rail access to communities in Arunachal Pradesh.
