Guwahati: Son of a prominent legislator in Nagaon, Assam has been accused of being involved with an alleged oil theft/smuggling racket.

According to reports, the accused has been identified as Rezaul Huda Faraji, son of Congress MLA Nurul Huda.

Rezaul is also said to be a leader of the All Assam Minorities Students' Union (AAMSU).

Faraji is reported to be absconding and the police from the Kaliabor Sub-division are now in search of him.

The racket, operating in the Amoni to Sulung area, was busted after a secret investigation led to the arrest of five individuals and the seizure of cash and two cars.

Further interrogation revealed a financial link between Faraji and the accused, with a transaction of Rs 60,000 traced to his account.

A police source said that while it cannot be said yet if he was directly involved in connection with the racket, the transaction raises significant evidence.

The police are intensifying their efforts to apprehend Faraji, conducting nighttime searches at his residence in Guwahati.

However, no official statement has been issued regarding his involvement.
