Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi confident of winning Jorhat Lok Sabha seat
JORHAT: Amidst fervent support from his followers, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi exuded confidence in securing victory in the Jorhat Lok Sabha seat in Assam, asserting that BJP MP Topon Kumar Gogoi will face defeat if the multitude of selfies translates into votes.
Having represented the Kaliabor constituency in Assam, Gogoi, now contesting from Jorhat, embarked on a two-day campaign tour across Majuli, the world's largest river island, addressing 12 street corner meetings.
Formerly part of the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency in Assam, Majuli was added to Jorhat in the recent delimitation exercise.
Despite Jorhat's shift towards the BJP in recent years, particularly since the tenure of Gaurav's father, the late Assam CM Tarun Gogoi, the Congress leader aims to establish a strong connection with voters, particularly the youth.
During his campaign, Gogoi was greeted with traditional Bihu drum beats and enthusiastic supporters who showered him with flower petals, garlands, and traditional scarves.
Amidst slogans of victory and fervent applause, Gogoi emphasized the overwhelming support he received, suggesting a significant win over the BJP.
Criticizing the BJP's track record, Gogoi highlighted unfulfilled promises, rising prices, and deteriorating conditions in sectors like education and agriculture.
He particularly emphasized the challenges faced by Majuli in Assam, promising steadfast support to address erosion and other issues plaguing the region.
Wrapping up his Majuli campaign, Gogoi engaged in closed-door meetings with political and social groups in Jorhat before concluding the day with a dinner meeting with local journalists.
Jorhat, set to vote in the first phase on April 19, along with four other seats in eastern Assam, anticipates a heated electoral battle as Gaurav Gogoi strives to secure victory and continue his family's political legacy.
