Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday officially launched Orunodoi 3.0 in the Bodoland Territorial Region, making BTR residents eligible for Assam’s leading welfare scheme for the first time.

Sarma said the launch ensures that residents of BTR can now equally benefit from Assam’s development initiatives.

The main event took place in Kokrajhar, with district-level launches held simultaneously in Udalguri, Baksa, Tamulpur, and Chirang.

He noted that the launch in BTR had been delayed earlier due to the council elections in the region.

During his election campaign, Sarma had pledged that BTR would benefit from schemes like Orunodoi and Lakhpati Baideo, similar to the rest of Assam.

Over 4 lakh women in BTR are now set to receive the scheme for the first time.

The December instalment will be distributed immediately, and additional benefits for Orunodoi recipients across Assam are planned from January 1, 2026.

Sarma noted that over 38 lakh women statewide currently receive monthly financial support under Orunodoi, which has helped them manage households more effectively with Rs 1,250 deposited every month.

He also mentioned the Centre’s provision of 5 kg free rice for low-income families and announced that from January 1, 2026, pulses, salt, and sugar will be sold at Rs 100 below the market price of Rs 117.

In Chirang, the rollout at Kajalgaon was inaugurated by Minister Krishnendu Paul, with 60,445 residents enrolled under Orunodoi 3.0.

Paul expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Sarma, noting that the scheme provides financial support and access to nutritious meals, giving hope to women in the district.
