GUWAHATI: The union cabinet committee on economic affairs has sanctioned the development of the Guwahati Ring Road project in Assam.

The Guwahati Ring Road project in Assam, spanning 121 kilometers, will be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 5729 crore under the Build-Operate-Toll (BOT) model.

The Guwahati Ring Road project in Assam comprises three major components.

Firstly, a new 56-kilometer, 4-lane Access-Controlled Northern Guwahati Bypass will be constructed.

Secondly, the existing 4-lane bypass on National Highway 27 (NH 27) will be widened to 6 lanes over an 8-kilometer stretch.

Lastly, enhancements will be made to the remaining 58 kilometers of the existing bypass on NH 27.

A significant highlight of this initiative is the inclusion of a major bridge over the Brahmaputra River, which will greatly improve connectivity across the region.

Upon completion, the Guwahati Ring Road in Assam will provide uninterrupted connectivity for long-distance traffic on NH 27, a crucial artery in the East-West Corridor.

This development is expected to ease congestion on major highways surrounding Guwahati in Assam and enhance access to key cities and towns including Siliguri, Silchar, Shillong, Jorhat, Tezpur, Jogigopha, and Barpeta.
