Assam: CEM Debolal Gorolasa calls for preventive action after NIT Silchar students’ tragic death
Guwahati: Debolal Gorolasa, CEM, Dima Hasao in Assam, on Sunday evening stressed on preventive measures after three students met tragic death.
A heartbreaking incident at Bahkol (Buolsol) Waterfall in Lower Boulsol, Harangajao, has claimed the lives of three young students from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar.
The deceased have been identified as Radhika (19) from Bihar, Sarvakritika (20) from Uttar Pradesh, and Sauhard Rai (20) from Uttar Pradesh.
Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, Debolal Gorolasa, visited the site on Sunday to assess the situation and meet those involved in the recovery operation.
“Today, I visited Lower Buolsol, Harangajao, the site of the tragic incident where three students of NIT Silchar lost their lives. During the visit, I met with the local residents of Buolsol as well as officials from NIT Silchar to understand the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate event. The local people expressed their grief and shared details of the situation, while the NIT officials discussed the steps being taken to support the affected families and ensure the safety of students in the future. It was a somber yet important visit to convey solidarity and to emphasize the need for preventive measures so that such incidents do not occur again,” Gorolasa said in a statement on Sunday evening
According to reports, the three students drowned while visiting the picturesque waterfall on Saturday.
Their bodies were recovered on Sunday by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team in coordination with local authorities in Dima Hasao.
The Superintendent of Police and the District Commissioner of Dima Hasao have been commended for their tireless rescue and recovery efforts. Further formalities are currently underway.
The incident has reignited discussions about the need for stronger safety protocols and preventive measures at rivers, waterfalls, and other vulnerable tourist locations in the hill district.
Locals and officials alike have called for clear signage, safety warnings, and restricted access during periods of high water flow to prevent similar tragedies.
The entire NIT Silchar community and residents of Dima Hasao mourn the loss of three bright, young lives.
Prayers and condolences continue to pour in for the bereaved families as the district administration works to ensure such a devastating incident is never repeated.
