Assam SIT files case against Akhil Gogoi for allegedly leaking Zubeen Garg chargesheet
Guwahati: A case has been filed against Raijor Dal chief and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi over allegations that sensitive details of a chargesheet linked to the death of Zubeen Garg were made public through social media.
The decision has triggered fresh political debate, with the government asserting the need to protect the integrity of an ongoing investigation.
“I have come to know that the government has filed a case against me for making the chargesheet related to Zubeen public. I am severely ill. Even then, I will go to Guwahati tomorrow to face the case,” Raijor Dal chief Gogoi stated on Thursday evening on social media.
According to sources, the allegations revolve around the alleged disclosure of chargesheet-related information before it was formally made public.
Investigating agencies are examining whether confidential or sensitive investigative inputs connected to Zubeen’s death were shared on social media platforms in violation of legal procedures governing active criminal cases.
The SIT has reportedly been mandated to probe whether unauthorized or unofficial copies of documents were circulated, whether the information made public was authenticated, and whether such disclosures had the potential to influence the investigation, witnesses, or other individuals linked to the case.
The source of the information and the circumstances under which it was shared are also key aspects under scrutiny.
Sources indicated that the investigation will further assess the intent behind the public dissemination of the material and evaluate its broader impact on the fairness of the probe.
The role of digital platforms in amplifying the information and the legal implications arising from such dissemination are also expected to be examined by the SIT.
Akhil Gogoi, Raijor Dal chief and Sivasagar MLA, has used social media to comment on political and legal developments.
He stated that he will appear in Guwahati to face the case.
The state government has maintained that the formation of the SIT is a lawful and procedural step aimed at ensuring a fair, impartial, and comprehensive investigation.
Further developments are expected as the SIT formally begins its inquiry and records statements in the matter.
