Assam: Boat capsizes in Lakhimpur, leaves 20 injured

Guwahati: A boat accident occurred on Monday in Assam's Lakhimpur, resulting in injuries to 20 passengers, including 15 students from local institutions.

The incident took place on the Subansiri River, where a boat carrying students from Ghunasuti Miri Jiory Girls High School and Miri Jiory College capsized, leaving 14 students from the former and one from the latter injured.

The accident is attributed to negligence of the crew by the locals.

However, timely intervention by members of the Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) prevented further catastrophe.

The injured students were promptly admitted to Dhakuakhana Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital for medical treatment.

In addition, the books and personal belongings of the students were damaged in the accident.
