GUWAHATI: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), a key ally of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Assam, has announced its list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, prioritizing the selection of formidable contenders.

Phanibhushan Choudhury will represent AGP from the Barpeta parliamentary constituency, while Zabed Islam is slated to contest from the Dhubri parliamentary seat.

Additionally, Raju Kumar Narzary has been nominated by the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) to contest from the Kokrajhar parliamentary constituency in Assam.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma disclosed that discussions regarding the selection of candidates took place in New Delhi on February 29.

It is noteworthy that the BJP will field candidates in 11 out of the 14 parliamentary constituencies in Assam, reserving two seats for its allies AGP (Barpeta and Dhubri) and one for the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) in Kokrajhar.
