Assam: Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay arrives in Guwahati to boost bilateral ties
Reported by NE NOW NEWS
Guwahati: Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan, is on a two-day visit to Assam starting Sunday, with focus expected on strengthening India–Bhutan cross-border links and development cooperation.
During his stay, he will call on Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Raj Bhavan.
The Bhutan Prime Minister’s trip follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the country in November last year.
During that visit, both sides held discussions on several cooperation plans, including a proposed rail link between Bhutan's Gelephu and Assam's Kokrajhar.
With Assam recently witnessing a change in government, officials view the timing as important for pushing forward initiatives related to trade, tourism, infrastructure, and regional connectivity between Bhutan and Northeast India.
Upon his arrival in Guwahati, Prime Minister Tobgay was received by State Cabinet Minister Atul Bora and senior administration officials at the State Guest House in Koinadhora.
The Gelephu–Kokrajhar rail project is emerging as a cornerstone of future cross-border economic integration and infrastructure growth between India and Bhutan
