Guwahati: Kishor Tahbildar, director of the upcoming Assamese film "Protishruti," distanced the production from the United Liberation Front of Asom (I) after the insurgent group's leader Paresh Baruah promoted the movie in a press release.

"We don't have any link with ULFA-I. But we appreciate their support for the film. Perhaps, as an Assamese, he (Baruah) is showing solidarity with Assamese cinema," Tahbildar said in a statement.

Earlier this week, ULFA (I) urged the public to watch "Protishruti," which tackles the critical issue of drug abuse and trafficking in Assam.

The film, directed by Tahbildar and produced by Ratul Baruah, stars acclaimed actresses Prastuti Parashar and Plabita Borthakur. It's scheduled for release on May 24, 2024.

Earlier, ULFA (I) spokesperson "Captain" Rumel Asom called on cinema hall owners to prioritize screening "Protishruti" for at least three to four weeks starting on its release date.

This edit clarifies the director's stance while maintaining the key points of the story. It avoids mentioning the specific request from ULFA-I (I) to replace Hindi films.
