Assam: APDCL official among two arrested for bribery in Nagaon

Guwahati: An Assam Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APDCL) official was arrested with another person for alleged bribery in Nagaon, Assam.

As per police sources, the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau nabbed Mintu Bora, an alleged middleman red-handed while accepting a bribe from a person in Geruamukh.

Bora along with Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, a Meter Reader at the Nagaon Electrical Sub-Division, demanded a bribe to waive a fine for an illegal electricity bypass connection.

Bora reportedly accepted Rs 7,000 from the complainant for setting up the illegal connection.

Following the confession made by Bora, the officials apprehended Sarma from Maz Pathari in Borghat.

The V&AC officials said that Bora was red-handed accepting the bribe "in conspiracy with Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma.

They further said that Sarma was arrested for demanding and accepting the bribe through the middleman.

This action by the DVAC highlights their efforts to crack down on corruption within government departments in Assam.
