Guwahati: Following a significant defeat in the recent Lok Sabha elections, AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam has resigned from the party's primary membership after the recent Lok Sabha election defeat in Assam.

Taking full responsibility for the poor electoral performance, Islam submitted his resignation to AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal on Monday.

Islam, who has represented the Mankachar Assembly constituency since 2021, stepped down in light of the party's disappointing results.

AIUDF's leader, Badruddin Ajmal, suffered a notable defeat to Congress candidate Rakibul Hussain in Dhubri.

The AIUDF, which contested three out of Assam's 14 parliamentary seats, was unsuccessful in all—Dhubri, Karimganj, and Nagaon.
