Assam: AGP reiterates stance against CAA, seeks SC's intervention

Guwahati: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has once again voiced its opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), citing its harmful impact on Assam.

At a series of meetings held in Bajali, AGP leaders reiterated their commitment to safeguarding Assam's regional interests and urged the Supreme Court to intervene in the matter.

AGP central leader Dharmeswar Roy stated, "Our priority remains the well-being of Assam and its people. We urge the government to station persecuted refugees from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh in other parts of the country, not in Assam."

Former Barpeta Lok Sabha MP Kumar Deepak Das emphasized the importance of regional unity and the AGP's dedication to preserving Assam's unique cultural and demographic identity.

He expressed confidence that the AGP's role in shaping Assam's future politics remains crucial.

The meetings, involving several mandal committees of the AGP, aimed to discuss strategies and assess the evolving political scenario.

AGP leaders acknowledged that political changes in the country are inevitable and Assam will not remain untouched by these shifts.

It may be mentioned that during the anti-CAA protests in Assam, at least five people lost their lives.

While the protest saw massive opposition from locals in Assam, it was still implemented.
