Ratul Sonowal, a resident of Lakhipather Rongsongi Village under Digboi police station, was booked under Section 132/262 of BNS 2023 on October 2, 2024, following a case registered at Digboi police station.

According to police sources, Sonowal was being taken to the district jail from Margherita court when he managed to break free from police custody. However, he surrendered to the police within 16 hours of his escape.

"The family members themselves escorted the accused to the police station, demonstrating an extra sense of social responsibility and exhibiting a commendable spirit of law-abiding citizens," said Dibya Jyoti Dutta, the Officer-in-Charge of Digboi police station.

Earlier, during a meeting of the first Thana Level Nagarik Committee held in Digboi Jyotinagar, the police official had emphasized the importance of citizen involvement in combating societal issues.
