Doomdooma: The Tinsukia district committee of the All Adivasi Students' Association of Assam (AASAA) on Tuesday observed the death anniversary of tribal icon and freedom fighter Birsa Munda with a commemorative programme at Bichakupi Tea Garden.

The event brought together community leaders, students and local residents, who paid tribute to Munda and recalled his contribution to the struggle for tribal rights and resistance against British colonial rule.

Doomdooma MLA Rupesh Gowala attended the programme and said he had joined the event organised by AASAA to commemorate Birsa Munda's death anniversary.

Speakers highlighted Munda's role in mobilising indigenous communities and his efforts to protect the rights, identity and land of tribal people during the colonial period.

Floral tributes were offered during the programme, while participants reflected on Munda's legacy and its continued relevance to tribal communities.

Community leaders also urged younger generations to learn from and uphold the values associated with the freedom fighter's life and struggle.
