Assam: 44 suspects from Jammu and Kashmir detained at Tinsukia Railway Station
Dibrugarh: Local youths in Assam's Tinsukia district detained 44 suspected individuals at Tinsukia Railway Station on Monday morning.
According to reports, the 44 suspected individuals are from Jammu and Kashmir and were brought by a contractor.
"We nabbed 44 suspected people at Tinsukia Railway Station when they were moving around. When we questioned them, they said they were from Jammu and Kashmir and had come here for work. A contractor named Kadhim Ali brought them for a job in Arunachal Pradesh," said one of the local youths.
He added, "We have informed the RPF and GRP. We don't know where they have come from, but we found them suspicious. Many incidents are happening in India. The Delhi bomb blast is one example where doctors from Kashmir were involved."
"We have come for transmission line work. We are wage laborers and came here for four months of work. We will be digging for an electric tower work in Arunachal Pradesh. We don't know anything, but contractor Kadhim Ali brought us here for work," said Bashir Ahmed.
He continued, "Most of us are from the Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir. We traveled by train and landed here today."
The verification of the individuals has not been completed yet.
Following the crackdown on illegal Bangladeshis in Assam, many suspected people have been caught in different areas of the state.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has already warned that illegal migrants pose a threat to the country's national security.
