Another Assam Congress MLA to support BJP government?

GUWAHATI: The Assam unit of the Congress party appears to be grappling with a significant upheaval as the Lok Sabha elections draw near.

In a recent development, another Congress leader in Assam is reportedly contemplating lending support to the BJP-led government in the state under chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

This comes on the heels of four Assam Congress MLAs openly aligning with the state's BJP-led administration.

Sources indicate that within the next 48 hours, a prominent Congress figure in Assam is poised to throw his weight behind the ruling BJP government.

Earlier, Assam Congress legislators Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Basanta Das had already announced their decision to support CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Notably, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed optimism that all remaining Congress MLAs in the Northeast state will eventually extend their support and "soon join us" as well.
