Assam: Youth brutally murdered by 12-member group in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh: In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old man named Kamal Sonar was brutally murdered by a group of youths in the Alubari area of Dibrugarh district in Assam.

The incident occurred near an illegal liquor shop, raising concerns about law enforcement in the region.

Police have arrested Deepjyoti Rajbanshi in connection with the murder.

According to local sources, a longstanding rivalry between Rajbanshi and Sonar may have led to the fatal altercation.

Witnesses reported that Kamal was severely beaten by a group of twelve youths, sustaining critical injuries.

Kamal was rushed to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in a critical condition but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

A local resident commented, "Kamal Sonar was allegedly killed by a group of twelve youths near an illegal liquor shop. It's suspected that Deepjyoti Rajbanshi had an old rivalry with Kamal. He was badly assaulted, leading to serious injuries. He was admitted to AMCH in a serious condition but later died during treatment."

"I want justice for my husband. He was brutally killed by a group of twelve youths. He was the sole earner for our family, and now I don't know how I will support our two children. This happened because of the unchecked illegal liquor shops in Alubari. The police must take action to shut them down," she told the media.

The Barbari police outpost has registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.

A police official stated, "Kamal Sonar went to the liquor shop last night to consume alcohol, where Deepjyoti Rajbanshi and his gang were present. An altercation broke out, and Kamal was badly beaten by the group. He was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately died during treatment."
