Assam: Woman arrested for pouring hot oil on neighbours in North Guwahati

Guwahati: Five women and a child are recovering from severe burns after a neighbour allegedly attacked them with hot oil in North Guwahati, Assam.

The incident took place in Amingaon, sources said.

The accused, identified as Jonali Hazarika Kalita, reportedly targeted the victims on Saturday following a neighbourhood dispute.

According to sources, the victims had organized a community meeting to address an earlier attack by Jonali on Friday.

When the women held Jonali accountable during the meeting, the situation reportedly escalated, leading to Jonali throwing hot oil on them.

The injured victims, Minati Boro, Sakina Bibi, Priti Begum, Padumi Boro, Mina Boro, and Sonmoni Boro, were rushed to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for treatment.

Family members of the victims have filed a First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the incident,

Following this, the police arrested Jonali Hazarika Kalita and are investigating the incident on Sunday.
