Assam wins 14 medals in national weightlifting championships
Guwahati: Ditimoni Sonowal and Suditya Baruah of Assam bagged medals at the IWLF Junior, Youth and Senior National Weightlifting Championships held in Himachal Pradesh.
While Ditimoni won gold, Suditya bagged silver.
Assam won a total of 14 medals, including five gold, five silver and four bronze medals in the tournament which concluded on Sunday.
Suditya, who played in the men’s 89kg category, lifted a total of 315kg, including 140kg in snatch, and 175kg in clean and jerk to win gold in the overall inter-state category and second place in the senior category.
On the other hand, Ditimoni won gold and silver in the women’s 64kg category in the inter-state category with a total weight of 210kg, including 92kg in snatch, and 118kg in clean and jerk.
Sangeeta Sadanidhar won silver in the junior girls’ 76kg category with a total weight of 181kg, including 84kg in snatch, and 97kg in clean and jerk.
In the youth category, Chankya Bora lifted 279 kg, including 122 kg in snatch, and 157kg in clean and jerk to win bronze.
Meanwhile, Bhawana Gogoi won bronze in the youth 59kg category with a total weight of 166kg, including 73kg in snatch, and 93kg in clean and jerk.
