North Lakhimpur: A village headman in Assam's Lakhimpur district has been accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl.

Prakash Pradhan, the Gaon Pradhan of 46 Tunijan village in the Dolahat Tea Estate, allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl from the same village last week.

According to the victim's family, the incident occurred while the girl was returning home after visiting Durga Puja pandals.

After the assault, the family filed a police complaint. Pradhan has been absconding since then.

The All Assam Tea Tribes Students Association (AATSA) has demanded the immediate arrest and punishment of the accused.

They have also called for the removal of Pradhan from his position as village headman.
