The NIPER-Guwahati - with a mission to cater high-quality laboratory animals for drug discovery - received funds to establish an animal breeding and general public license-accredited biological screening and toxicology centre with the latest equipment required for drug discovery development.

The institute is supporting traditional healers and potential entrepreneurs from different states of the Northeastern region to promote their medicines from regional and global level.

Later in the day, Majumdar visited Gauhati University and inaugurated the building of the Centre for Brahmaputra Studies.

In his address, Majumdar said this initiative is not just about research but about understanding the complex and dynamic nature of the river Brahmaputra and addressing the many challenges it poses while unlocking opportunities for sustainable development.

“The centre’s primary mission is to provide insights and solutions that guide the sustainable development of the region and ensure the well-being of the people who rely on the river Brahmaputra,” he added.
