Guwahati: Two railway stations in Assam have been awarded withEat Right Station’ certifications by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) based on the high-quality and nutritious food served by these stations to the passengers.

The Kamakhya railway station in state capital Guwahati and the New Tinsukia railway station in Upper Assam bagged the certifications after being able to meet the guidelines set by the FSSAI.

With this, these stations have become among the 10 railway stations under the jurisdiction of the Guwahati-headquartered Northeast Frontier Railway (NF Railway) to get the status.

The certifications to these stations have been awarded for a period of two years.

In its bid to ensure safe and hygienic food to the rail passengers, the NF Railway aims to make more railway stations under its jurisdiction meet the guidelines set by FSSAI to qualify for the certification.

The other stations in Assam to have bagged the certification are the Guwahati railway station, Lumding railway station in Hojai district, Rangiya station in Kamrup district, Mariani station in Jorhat district and New Bongaigaon station.

The ‘Eat Right Station’ certification is awarded by FSSAI to the railway stations adhering to standard food storage and hygiene practices.

Awarding the certification to railway stations is an effort by the FSSAI to ensure that safe, healthy and sustainable food is served to people across the country.
