Assam: Two Bangladeshi nationals held, pushed back
Guwahati: Two Bangladeshi nationals who had illegally entered India were apprehended in south Assam's Karimganj district and deported back to their country, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday.
The duo, identified as Masum Khan and Sonia Akhtar, were caught at Badarpur railway station in Karimganj district on Friday night. Khan is a resident of Modelganj police station area in Bangladesh, while Akhtar is from Dhaka.
According to Sarma, the individuals had crossed the border through the Madhoppur (Bangladesh)-Agartala route and were heading to Bengaluru.
In a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF), Assam Police successfully pushed them back across the border on Saturday.
This incident marks the latest in a series of apprehensions and deportations involving Bangladeshi nationals attempting to enter India illegally.
Sarma had previously stated that over 30 such individuals had been pushed back from Assam in the past month alone.
Many of these individuals were reportedly seeking employment in the textile industry in southern Indian cities.
