Guwahati: A dispute is reportedly brewing again between transport operators in Assam and Meghalaya's taxi associations, potentially disrupting tourism in the region.

The Motor Parivan Sewakarmi Sanmilita Manch, representing Assam's transport operators, has warned that if Meghalaya's taxi associations restrict their access to popular tourist spots, they will halt or limit all tourist operations to Meghalaya.

This comes in response to the All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association's (AKMTTA) demand to restrict Assam-registered tourist taxis from entering Meghalaya.

The Manch argues that such restrictions would harm the tourism sector, impacting local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and street vendors.

The organisation urged the Meghalaya government to avoid unilateral decisions that could jeopardize the region's tourism sector.

They said that cooperation was important, citing their instrumental role in promoting tourism across major Indian cities.
