Assam: STF nabs 2 for illegally transporting 600 tons of PDS rice

Guwahati: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police late Tuesday night apprehended two persons and seized 600 tonnes of rice in Kamrup district of Assam.

Acting on intelligence input, a team of STF intercepted a vehicle, bearing registration number AS19-AC-5078, at Madanpur toll plaza under the jurisdiction of Changsari police station.

The vehicle was found to be loaded with hundreds of bags of rice. During questioning, the occupants of the vehicle could not produce any valid documents for the rice.

It was discovered that the vehicle was transporting 30 tonnes of fortified rice kernel (FRK) of blended rice, filled in 600 bags, illegally.

It is suspected the rice was meant for distribution through the Public Distribution System (PDS).

During further questioning, the occupants revealed that the rice was being transported from Barpeta district in Assam to Meghalaya.

The sleuths of STF apprehended the occupants and seized the consignment of rice and the vehicle.

The STF has initiated legal proceedings.
