Assam: Silchar women allege trafficking by placement agency, 19 escape captivity

Guwahati: At least 30 young women from Barak Valley in Assam reportedly accused a placement agency, Fabtax Private Limited of human trafficking under the guise of offering nursing jobs outside the state.

Of the 30, 19 managed to escape while 11 remained in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

The women told police that they were taken by the company with a promise of giving them jobs in the nursing industry.

They claimed that reputed hospitals were supposed to recruit them but instead, they were taken to Delhi and then to Ghaziabad and Kapashera in Haryana.

The women as per the police were trained in Nursing at an institute in Silchar and most had limited education.

The women alleged they were held captive in conditions resembling a brothel and pressured into engaging in illegal activities.

However, the placement agency has denied the claims and allegations made by the women citing a "successful history in job placement".

The agency claimed that the allegations were being made to malign their reputation.

An investigation has been initiated by the police.
