Assam shines at 70th National Film Awards

Guwahati: Assam brought home multiple awards at the prestigious 70th National Film Awards. In a significant win for the state’s film industry, Sikaisal, directed by Dr. Bobby Sarma Baruah, clinched the Best Tiwa Film award. Emuthi Puthi by Kulanandini Mahanta was bestowed the Best Assamese Film honor.

Adding to Assam’s glory, Nabapan Deka’s Xunyota (Void) secured the Best Short Film award. While Aimee Baruah’s Birubala: Witch to Padmashri and Partha Sarathi Mahanta’s Hargila– The Greater Adjutant Stork received special mentions from the jury.

The winners of the 70th National Film Awards were announced on Friday in New Delhi. The award ceremony will be held at a later date where the best Indian films of 2022 will be honored by the President.

The Malayalam drama Aattam bagged the Best Feature Film award, with Rishab Shetty winning Best Actor and Nithya Menen and Manasi Parekh sharing the Best Actress award. Ponniyin Selvan: 1 emerged as the biggest winner with four awards.
