Guwahati: With elections overhead, another senior Congress leader from Assam resigned from the party on Thursday.

As per reports, Senior leader and spokesperson of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Romen Chandra Borthakur resigned from the party's primary membership on Thursday.

While the reason behind the resignation is still not known, there are speculations that the senior Congressman resigned after being dissatisfied with the ticket allocation.

Borthakur was one of the aspirants from Congress for the Guwahati Lok Sabha seat.

However, the ticket for the seat was allocated to Mira Borthakur.

He had also shown interest in the Darrang-Udalguri seat.

However, despite being hopeful, he was not given a ticket to contest.

Borthakur sent the resignation formally to APCC president Bhupen Borah.

Further, he was also served a show-cause notice from the APCC as per directions by Bhupen Borah.

He was served the notice on allegations that he violated the party discipline and engaged in activities detrimental to the party's interests.

The notice, issued by APCC general secretary Bipul Gogoi, requires Borthakur to respond within three days, providing justification for his actions and explaining why disciplinary measures should not be taken against him.
