Guwahati: Forest officials at Kaziranga National Park in Assam recovered the carcass of a rhinoceros near the banks of a river in Gai Tapu on Sunday.

Workers in the area spotted the rhino and alerted park authorities. Forest department officials arrived at the spot and retrieved the carcass for postmortem examination.

A post-mortem examination is being conducted to determine the cause of death. Initial reports suggest the rhino may have died of natural causes, possibly due to old age.

Park authorities believe poaching is unlikely as the rhino's horn was found intact. A forest official stated, "The animal's age suggests natural causes may be responsible, but a post-mortem examination will confirm the cause of death."

Earlier in February, forest officials of Kaziranga National Park (KNP) recovered the carcass of a full-grown one-horned rhino.

The carcass was found near Mona Beel in the Kohora range of Kaziranga.
