Assam Police’s STF seize heroin worth Rs 4 crore in Hajo

Guwahati: The Special Task Force of Assam Police on Friday apprehended an alleged drug trafficker and seized heroin valued at Rs four crore in the international market at Hajo in Kamrup district of Assam.

Sources informed the STF that narcotic substances would be transported in a Maruti Ritz vehicle bearing registration number AS01-DB-7121 from Mizoram to a district in lower Assam.

Based on the input, the vehicle was intercepted by a team of STF led by its Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kalyan Kumar Pathak at Pakhamela Chowk of Hajo.

On being thoroughly checked, 41 plastic soap cases containing 533 grams of heroin were recovered from hidden chambers of the vehicle.

The carrier of the contraband item, Manab Deb (42), a resident of Lakhipur village under the jurisdiction of Lakhipur police station in southern Assam’s Cachar district, was apprehended.

The consignment of narcotics along with the vehicle was soon seized and legal proceedings against the accused have been initiated.
