Assam Police’s STF seize fake currency, 3 from Meghalaya nabbed

Guwahati: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police on Tuesday apprehended three persons from Sundarpur area in Guwahati and seized a bundle of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) from their possession.

Based on an input, the STF carried out a raid at the Sundarpur area near Ganeshguri under the jurisdiction of Dispur police station and nabbed the three individuals hailing from Meghalaya.

During search of the trio’s vehicle bearing registration number ML06-8742, sleuths of the STF recovered a bundle of counterfeit notes having a face value of Rs 23,000.

The STF team also recovered 564 pieces of white paper in the shape of 500 rupees notes wrapped with green-coloured adhesive tape, four mobile phones and Rs 2,120 in cash, among others.

The trio has been identified as Ariven K. Marwein (31), Nicholas Shangpliang (56) and Shembok Nongsiej (37), all residents of Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya.

The police have initiated an investigation in this regard.
