Assam police seeks public assistance in cracking ULFA-I bomb scare case
Guwahati: Assam police has called on the public for assistance in its ongoing investigation into the planting of bomb-like devices across various locations in the state, allegedly by the anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-Independent).
The militant group has claimed responsibility for planting these devices in protest against the recent Independence Day celebrations.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, Assam Police urged citizens to provide credible information about the individuals involved in the making, transporting, and planting of these devices.
The police have announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for any concrete leads, with a promise to keep the identity of informants confidential.
Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh revealed that four cases have already been registered in Guwahati in connection with the incidents.
"An SIT (Special Investigation Team) is being formed to coordinate the investigation, with the Joint Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, overseeing the SIT's operations," Singh said.
He added that similar teams are being formed in other districts, with the assurance that the case will be solved swiftly.
DGP Singh emphasized the police's determination to maintain peace in the state, stating that a special team will be dispatched to Upper Assam for an operational review.
"Assam Police has successfully cracked all major cases in recent times, and we will ensure that those involved in this chain of activities are apprehended," Singh said.
"We will leave no stone unturned to ensure peace prevails in Assam."
The anti-talk faction of ULFA had earlier issued a statement to the media claiming to have planted bombs in 24 locations across Assam as part of their protest against Indian Independence Day.
However, the group later announced that the protest was canceled due to "technical reasons" and disclosed the bomb locations to facilitate their defusal.
In response, Assam Police conducted extensive searches across the state, discovering suspicious devices in several locations, including Guwahati, Lakhimpur, Sivasagar, Nalbari, and Nagaon.
While the Bomb Disposal Squad safely defused the devices, forensic and chemical analyses of the materials are underway.
"The articles found did not contain ignition devices, though some circuits and batteries were present," Singh noted in another statement on X.
The investigation continues, with the police urging the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
