Guwahati: The Assam police on Monday (September 9, 2024) pushed back two Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, after they entered India illegally.

The duo – Shahadat Hussain and Priyanka Gain - were intercepted by the police along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Assam’s Karimganj district.

The Karimganj police pushed the duo to their country after questioning and completing the legal formalities.

Bangladeshi nationals crossing over to India illegally through the porous borders of Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram is on the rise in the recent past.

These four Northeastern states share international borders with Bangladesh. Most of these borders still remain unfenced.

On Sunday (September 8, 2024), the Assam police apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals, including two women, after they sneaked into India illegally.

The infiltrators – Mastabis Rahman, Asma Bibi, Abani Saddar, Lima Saddar and Sumaya Akhtar - were later pushed back to their country.
