Assam: Police official arrested for accepting bribe in Hailakandi

Guwahati: The sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption apprehended one Lance Naik for allegedly demanding a bribe in Hailakandi, Assam on Tuesday,

The accused identified as Gouidur Rahman Barbhuiya was posted at the Sadar police station in Hailakandi.

He was demanding a bribe of Rs 6,000 for giving relief in a criminal case.

The incident took place when a man who was recently granted bail from the court, visited Sadar police station to submit the bail letters.

Barbhuiya during that time allegedly demanded a bribe from the man.

The man approached the vigilance-Anti corruption unit, leading to an operation.

On Tuesday, as Barbhuiya was accepting the demanded money, the Vigilance-Anti corruption team intervened and arrested him.

Barbhuiya is currently in custody of the Vigilance-Anti corruption unit and will be transported to Guwahati for further legal proceedings.
