The Assam Police late Tuesday (October 1, 2024) night apprehended 12 Bangladeshi nationals from the Hatsingimari area of South Salmara-Mankachar district.

The 12 individuals were nabbed when they were trying to return to Bangladesh after a brief stay in different parts of India.

The group had entered India illegally through Meghalaya’s Dawki and proceeded to different cities of the country in search of job opportunities.

The Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Police later deported them to Bangladesh after completion of the legal formalities.

Influx of Bangladeshi nationals into the Northeastern states, including Assam, has been on the rise ever since the neighbouring country has witnessed political unrest.

These Bangladeshi nationals sneak into India mostly through the porous borders of Assam and Tripura.
