Assam police nabs 5 Bangladeshi infiltrators, pushed back

Guwahati: The Assam police on Sunday (September 8, 2024) apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals, including two women, and later pushed them back to their country after questioning.

The Bangladeshi nationals had entered India illegally. Strict vigilance by the Assam police led to the detection of the infiltrators - Mastabis Rahman, Asma Bibi, Abani Saddar, Lima Saddar and Sumaya Akhtar. The infiltrators were pushed back to Bangladesh at around 1 am on Sunday.

Bangladeshi nationals entering India illegally through the porous borders of the Northeastern states of Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram is on the rise in the recent past.

Early on Saturday (September 7, 2024) morning, the Tripura police apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals for illegally crossing over to India through Unakoti district’s Kumarghat.

The group was found roaming suspiciously when the police nabbed them. The apprehended individuals - Mohammad Hanif (50), Mohammad Yusuf Ali (35), Parul Begum and Jasmine Akhtar, all hailed from Bangladesh’s Bagerhat district.

The infiltrators traveled by three-wheelers to Dharmanagar when the police intercepted them. Upon questioning, the group revealed that they had been lured to India by a man named Rubel - a resident of Dhaka - who had promised them employment opportunities in Bengaluru.

The arrested individuals were later produced before a court and legal proceedings have been initiated.
