Assam: Panchayat secretary shot dead in Bongaigaon

Guwahati: A Gaon Panchayat secretary was allegedly assassinated in a brazen attack on Wednesday in Assam's Bongaigaon district.

The deceased identified as Chandrakanta Das, the secretary of Chipansila village, was gunned down by unidentified assailants while returning home from work.

Reports state that Das was shot at point-blank range by miscreants who arrived on a two-wheeler.

The incident occurred near a tea stall in Kashidoba village, where Das had stopped briefly.

Bongaigaon district commissioner and local police officials, rushed to the scene to investigate the crime.

The motive behind the killing remains unclear at this time.
