Numaligarh: In a tragic incident, a wild elephant was electrocuted inside the township of Numaligarh Refinery in Assam.

The death of the elephant has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns about wildlife management and compliance with environmental regulations.

The incident occurred when the elephant came into contact with a live electrical wire within the refinery's residential area.

The NRL authorities, in a controversial move, allegedly buried the body of the elephant without informing the Assam forest department.

This has led to allegations of negligence and lack of transparency in handling the situation.

The Numaligarh Refinery Township is situated on an established elephant corridor, a crucial migratory route for elephants in the region.

Local activists and environmental groups are demanding an immediate investigation into the incident and accountability for the refinery authorities.

"This is a clear violation of wildlife protection laws and NGT directives," said a spokesperson from a local conservation group.

"The negligence shown by the refinery authorities is appalling, and immediate action must be taken to prevent such incidents in the future."
