Assam: Northeast Now journalist gets REACH media fellowship for reporting on non-communicable disease

Guwahati based journalist, Mahesh Deka, chief copy editor, Northeast Now has been chosen for REACH Media Fellowships for reporting on non-communicable disease.

As part of the fellowship, Deka has been selected to study the factors behind the high prevalence of hypertension among the tea garden workers in upper Assam.

The prestigious national level media fellowship has been awarded to the journalist for the year 2020-21.

A total of 17 journalists from the applications received from across the country have been selected for the fellowship.

The fellowship is for a period of three months.

Chennai based REACH has been a key organization in the fight against TB and non-communicable disease.

Earlier in 2019, journalist Deka was selected for REACH Media Fellowships for reporting on TB.

Deka is also a recipient of media fellowships offered by Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS), New Delhi, National Foundation for India, New Delhi and UNICEF and Gauhati University.
