Guwahati: The national investigation agency (NIA) has filed charges against four individuals, including a member of Paresh Baruah-led ULFA-I, for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy to target army camps in Assam.

According to an NIA statement, two motorcycle-borne cadres of the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) lobbed grenades at the military station at Lichubari in Jorhat district of Assam, on December 14 last year.

This attack was part of a broader conspiracy to target army establishments across the Northeast state of Assam.

The grenade attack in Lichubari occurred less than a month after a similar attack at an army camp at Kakopathar in Tinsukia district of Assam.

On December 15 last year, ULFA-I claimed responsibility for both the attacks through a press release.

The NIA's investigation revealed that the entire conspiracy was masterminded from across the international border in Myanmar by ULFA-I leader Abhijeet Gogoi, also known by several aliases including Kanak Gogoi, Rumel Asom, Aicheng Asom, and Aishang Asom.

The plot was orchestrated alongside ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah, alias Paresh Asom.

Another key conspirator was identified as Arunudoy Dohutia, alias Arunodoi Asom.

The NIA's investigations into the Jorhat attack led to the arrest of three individuals: Biplab Baruah, Biraj Kachari, and Achyut Gogoi.

All three were charged on Tuesday in a special NIA court in Guwahati, along with Aicheng Asom, who remains at large.
