Guwahati: In a shocking incident of mob justice, a 27-year-old man lost his life as he was brutally beaten on suspicion of stealing a mobile handset.

The gruesome incident happened in Assam’s Sivasagar on Monday and it also resulted in injuring another person who was spotted along with the man.

According to initial reports both the men had apparently broken into a residence and stole a mobile handset.

While doing the act they were caught the in no time locals in the area cornered the duo and started thrashing them.

Soon, both the man was badly injured due to the assault and one of them died, while the other was left wounded.

The matter was reported to have happened in the Phukan Nagar locality of Sivasagar town.

The deceased individual was later identified as 27-year-old Palu Gowala, a resident of Ward 10 of Phukan Nagar.

The other victim identified as Dadu Orang, was admitted to the hospital with injuries he sustained during the beating.

The surviving person said that they were wrongly held for the theft.
