Assam: Medical student dies by suicide in Silchar

Guwahati: A medical student of Assam’s Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) died by suicide on Tuesday (September 3, 2024) night.

The incident happened around 10 pm with the police reaching the spot 30 minutes later.

Hinting of a possible attempt of suicide, two notes, recovered from the 24-year-old student’s room, read nobody should be held responsible for his death.

The police recovered the notes with the deceased’s family members verifying his handwriting. The notes will however be examined as per the law.

However, prima facie evidence suggests it to be a suicide.

The body was later sent to the SMCH for a post-mortem examination with the police beginning an investigation into the matter,

Some students of the medical college said the deceased to be an intelligent student who secured a good rank in the NEET examination.
