Assam: Man suspected of dacoity injured in police firing in Goalpara

Guwahati: On Wednesday a man suspected of dacoity was injured in police action in Goalpara, Assam.

The injured was identified as Nur Alam.

He was shot and injured by police while allegedly trying to flee from custody.

Alam, along with his accomplice Zahidul Akhtar Chowdhury, had been arrested for their alleged involvement in a robbery that took place on July 31 in Lakhipur.

During a police operation to recover a stolen mobile phone, Alam attempted to escape, prompting the police to open fire in self-defence. The accused sustained a bullet wound in his leg and was immediately rushed to the Goalpara Civil Hospital for medical treatment.

The police had apprehended the duo following a robbery in which cash, gold, and a mobile phone were stolen.
