Assam: Manas National Park temporarily closes for tourists

PATHSALA: Manas National Park in Assam, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has officially closed its gates to tourists for the next three months.

This annual closure is a precautionary measure taken by the park authorities to ensure the safety of both visitors and wildlife during the monsoon season.

Earlier this month, on June 5, the park authorities issued a notification suspending tourist jeep safaris within the park.

However, recognizing the accessibility from Bansbari Range’s main entrance to Mathanguri, the authorities extended the jeep safari period by 15 days, allowing visitors until June 20 to explore the park.

With this extended period now concluded, the Manas National Park will remain closed until October.

The reopening in October is anticipated to coincide with improved weather conditions, providing a safer and more enjoyable experience for tourists.

Despite the closure, Manas National Park had a successful 2023–24 tourism year, generating a substantial revenue of Rs 1.3 crore.

The Manas National Park in Assam attracted a significant number of visitors, welcoming 50,000 domestic tourists and 2000 foreign tourists.
