Guwahati: Police have arrested a man in Assam’s Tinsukia district for killing his four-month-old daughter due to a quarrel with his wife, officials said on Sunday.

The incident took place in Mugongpathar village under Pengaree police station in Tinsukia district.

According to police, the incident arose from a domestic dispute between the infant's parents. The man, identified as Binod Karmakar, reportedly visited his wife and child at their residence in Mugongpathar.

An argument ensued, and preliminary investigations suggest Karmakar inflicted harm on the baby, resulting in her death from a head injury.

"Police are thoroughly investigating the case," a senior officer stated. "The cause of death will be confirmed after a post-mortem examination at Tinsukia civil hospital," he said.

Binod Karmakar is currently under arrest, and a case has been registered against him.
