Assam: Man kidnaps child in bid to force mother to elope, arrested

Guwahati: A man was arrested by the police from the Palasbari area of Kamrup for allegedly kidnapping a child from Guwahati, Assam.

According to reports, the man had abducted a two-year-old child from the Boragaon area of Guwahati, Assam and took him to Palashbari to try to escape.

The accused was identified as Pabitra Das, a resident of Bijoynagar.

He allegedly had an "extra-marital affair" with the child's mother, reports claimed.

He allegedly had been forcing the child's mother to elope with her but she kept refusing.

However, to compel her to elope, he allegedly abducted the child.

However, the police based on the mother's complaint, quickly traced Das and rescued the child.

The reports further claimed that Das took the child away in front of the mother.

A car was also seized from the accused.

Further, the accused told the police that he was planning to die by suicide by jumping into the Brahmaputra river with the child with him.
