Assam: Man held for raping minor girl’s dead body

Silchar: A man has been nabbed for allegedly raping a minor girl’s dead body at the mortuary of a hospital in Assam’s Karimganj district on Monday.

On Friday evening the school-going girl was found hanging from a tree adjacent to her house in Chagolmua under Bazaricherra police station in Karimganj district.

The police recovered the body and it was sent to Karimganj civil hospital for post-mortem and other necessary procedures. The police said this might be a case of suicide.

On Saturday morning, a doctor arrived at the hospital's morgue for an autopsy and found injury marks on her private parts which was a clear indication of sexual assault.

The doctor immediately informed the hospital authorities about the situation and after that, the case was handed over to the police.

The police officials conducted a thorough investigation and they found that Anju Rabidas, the brother of the morgue's guard, had committed this horrendous act.

During the interrogation, the man confessed that he had raped the minor girl's dead body for which her private parts got some injuries.

Later the body was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for autopsy. Family members of the deceased girl demanded strict actions against Anju Rabidas.
